College Planning/GO Center

St. John Paul II High School Counseling and Guidance Department strives to minimize the obstacles that can loom in the paths of our students as they make plans to attend college. The GO Center has the resources to deal with the pitfalls and clear the paths for students.

Scholarships to apply for!!! All you need to do is either click on the title links to gain access or come by the Go Center to grab a paper copy. If you have any questions stop by the Go Center.

  • Coastal Bend Community Foundation
    • A single, combined online application can be submitted that considers students for over 70 scholarships! All required documents must be uploaded to the application (NOT MAILED)!
    • Requirements:
      • Official Transcript
      • ACT/SAT Score reports
      • 2019-2020 FAFSA Student Aid Report
      • 2 Essays
      • One letter of recommendation
  • Stars Scholarship Fund
    • Can either complete online or on paper application. Paper applications are in the Scholarships bin at the Go Center.
    • Eligibility:
      • U.S citizen/ legal permanent resident
      • Completed at least 12 undergraduate credit hours (Dual Credit)
      • Minimum 2.7 GPA
    • Requirements:
      • Online/Paper application completed
      • Signed certification and release form
      • Official college transcript
      • FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR)
      • Personal Statement
  • Hispanic Scholarship Fund
    • Awards are based on merit; amounts range from $500 to $5,000, based on relative need.
    • Eligibility:
      • Hispanic heritage
      • Minimum 3.0 GPA
      • US Citizen
      • Completed FAFSA
  • Mano a Mano Scholarship
    • Eligibility:
      • Cumulative 2.5 GPA
    • Requirements:
      • Completed online application
      • Transcript
      • Letter of recommendation from current school administrator, counselor, teacher, or work supervisor
  • Military Legacy Scholarship
    • Eligibilty:
      • children/dependents of active duty and honorably discharged U.S. Veterans, including U.S. Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reservists
    • Requirements:
      • Completed online application
Junior "Class of 2020" Scholarships:
  • Practice for the SAT - $1,000
    • 150 randomly awarded every month 
    • How?
      • Link your College Board and Khan Academy accounts and start PRACTICING!
      • Practice for 6 hours on the Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy
      • Earn 1 entry for each additional hour practiced up to 20 hours
  • Improve Your Score - $2,000
    • 25 randomly awarded every month 
    • How?
      • Again make sure your College Board and Khan Academy accounts are linked!
      • Practice for 12+ hours
      • On your College Board account, view your score reporting portal and set a target score of 100 points higher than your current score
      • Take the SAT!
      • View scores again when available to see if you improved by 100 points
