The English Department focuses on reading and writing skills, as well as strengthening vocabulary and grammar. Research skills, Shakespeare, Greek writings, British and American literature are focused on throughout the 4 years at SJPII HS. Dual Credit is offered through Del Mar College.

Using a hands-on multi-media approach, students will gain confidence in their artistic ability and understanding of art and art history.  Basic musical techniques and opportunities to perform are part of the band class activities. Foundational concepts to computer science and computer programming as well as robotic design is taught in our computer science programs. The Spanish language class engages students in a variety of activities to study the Spanish language and its culture, including the study of Spanish language films and Spanish Literature.

The math department offers on grade level and accelerated math courses that are designed to build on knowledge from the previous year and adequately prepare students for college-level math courses. Dual credit courses are offered through Del Mar College.

The science department provides a solid foundation for all high school academic and honor courses. Anatomy/physiology and Environmental systems electives are offered on campus and Dual Credit courses are offered through Del Mar College.

The Social Studies department offers integrated exploration of history from ancient times to current 21st Century. It focuses on cultures around the world and how humans impacted the world today, including world history and specifically US history. Dual Credit is offered through Del Mar College.

The Theology department focuses on the spiritual well-being of the student. Students learn about the Catholic teachings and belief. Scripture is the focus for all classes, as well as how Jesus was prefigured in the Old Testament and revealed in the New Testament. The Senior thesis is a major research paper focusing on a contemporary issue facing our world today that requires students to integrate and apply what they have learned through their Theology classes. Dual Credit class is offered through University of Mary.
