Meet Mr. Charba
Why I choose to work in education:
I love talking to people about the fun and interesting things I've learned, and since my classrooms are a captive audience, they have to listen which really gives me positive feelings :D
Why I choose to work at SJPIIA-HS:
By far, the Catholic identity and focus is the most impactful reason. It's more important than ever to educate the next generation with the faith and the Church to guide.
My Mission:
To teach the students practical computer skills so that if they do not decide to pursue a career in computer science, they will still have learned valuable skills for any professional or domestic vocation.
Something to know about me personally:
I've been married for 20 years, I have 10 children, I live and work part time on the family farm, and if it's a nerd or geek hobby, I've probably done it or am currently obsessing about it. I love to sing, both sacred and popular music, and host regular karaoke sessions for my family and friends at my farm house.
Education/Experience:
My degrees:
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Minor in Mathematics from A&M Corpus Christi
Experience:
- 10 years professional experience with Cisco/Cisco Partners as a network security analyst
- 18 years home-school teacher for my own children
- A lifetime of playing with and breaking technology to learn how it works
Preferred Communication Method:
Email communication is preferred.
I'm available:
- 1st Period-8:10-9:00 a.m.
- I typically leave after 4th period (11:50 a.m.) so if you would like me to stay through for a visit, please let me know via email
My favorite quote:
Matthew 8:8 The centurion said in reply,* “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed.
I love this quote because this pagan Roman centurion had faith and humility to seek the man who is also God; right after his request, Jesus is amazed at his faith. This gives me a chuckle that the Son of God could still be surprised or delighted just like the rest of us.
Thanks for letting me be a part of JP2 - I'm very glad to be here.
