Scholarships
Types of Financial Assistance for College
There are two basic categories of student financial aid: 1) need-based, and 2) non need-based. When students do not have sufficient financial resources to pay for their education beyond high school, they are generally considered to have "financial need." Non need-based aid is often referred to as merit-based aid and is frequently awarded to students in recognition of special skills, talents, or academic abilities.
On this page we will place a variety of scholarship sources. Students and their families should first strive to obtain scholarships and grants first, since these sources award "free money." Keep in mind that loans will have to be repaid, and typically with interest.
Scholarship Search Engines
In addition to the scholarships we highlight on this page, students and parent can utilize the fee scholarship search programs available on the Internet. Beware of those site that want to change a fee. The following are free.
Students should also seek school specific scholarships at the colleges and univeristies where they have been accepted for admissions.
