Mission

Library pic3The mission of the library program at John Paul II CITGO Library is to ensure that the members of the learning community, which includes students, teachers, staff and parents, are effective users of ideas and information.  By teaching the concepts and skills of information literacy, and by engaging individuals in active, creative thinking and problem solving. The library program works to nurture lifelong, independent learning. As the amount of information available continues to grow, a strong school library program is essential to help its users acquire the skills they will need to use information competently and contribute to the well-being of this community. The library serves as the hub of a culture of learning that is vital to student achievement.  They are instructed to use technology Internet searching strategies and printed materials to enhance their skills.  In addition, they have access to resources provided by the Corpus Christi Public Library online databases as a free service with their own library card/password to NEWSPAPERS – USA AND WORLD WIDE at http://www.refdesk.com/paper.html. Two other excellent resources are http://www.caller.com/nie, and http://www.library.ci.corpus-christi.tx.us.

JPII CITGO library provides students’ link(s) to the most current MLA style guide(s) via the library web page. This is in addition to the hard copy available when visiting the library.

Students in grades sixth through twelfth use the John Paul II CITGO Library.   There are over 13,000 books, current periodicals, videos, DVDs, CDs, and various specialized electronic databases.  Our library encourages lifelong learning while honoring new technology skills and informational literacy.  This program employs a flexible schedule for Bishop Garriga Preparatory Middle School and John Paul High School.   It is available weekday 8:00 AM through lunch and until 5:00 PM to all students, teachers, staff, and parents.
